Monstroville: Part 1!

A while back a man named Von Kreep asked me to do some designs for his animated project, how could I refuse. The project is call "Monstroville", you may have heard of it and it is way up my alley. I have never in my 20 years in animation have I had the opportunity to work on a classic monsters project with somebody. Well there was "Monster force" for Universal, but I didn't get to design anything.

A whole lot of characters! I went kind of over board, and yes I do know that Darkseid, brainiac and lex are from the 70's and 80's. I just really like those designs, and they can always be used in stories were the villian from the future goes to the past to get rid of his problems. 

Next time will be a post on the BG's I did for the backgrounds of my designs. They are kind of hard to see  and whether they are crap or not, you decide.  Be kind, I am not a BG artist at all but you don't get better at it if you don't try.

It's been a long time since I redesign anything but I had the itch. This took a long time to do since all my health issues keep me from drawing in long sessions like I use to. I had to look up a lot of reference for this project since I do not have a great knowledge of Superman's  history. All the characters I choose are from the beginning of Superman's career, mainly the 40's, 50's and 60's. You can tell from Superman's costume, I based it on the Fleischer Superman cartoon and gave him the shorts based on the "New Frontier" comic.

I found some old designs I did 15 years ago and slapped them on an Alex Toth model sheet, just to see what it would look like. I do this the odd time just to get a quick look at some of my old designs to see if it still works for me.

 I still think its OK, nothing amazing.

The last of the trio, I have done the terminator a while ago, and last month I did Aliens. Now the Stan Winston trio of the most infamous movie monsters in Science fiction is complete.
