Just thought I would clarify a few thing about the Pixar stuff I have been doing. I have been Informed by a friend that a lot of people have been offended by the colour choice I have made on Sulu ( and other characters ) from the Star Trek series I did. Yes, it is true that I am colour blind and picking colours is not my strong suit, but I do not pick these colours. The colours I use are straight from the source, by which I mean I use Photoshop to pick the colour right off the photo of the character I am trying to emulate in Pixar fashion. So I am Sorry if this offends you, but it is the way I get colours for the thing I do.
As for the other comments that have surfaced: No, Pixar did not do this and will never do this, and I did not render these images either. Yes, these are characters from Pixar films and it is just a photo mash-up of images I find on the internet using Photoshop. No, they are not meant to be a caricature of the actors who played them. Rather a character from the Pixar universe that resembles in some small way the character I am doing. It is just a fun simple project I picked to help me learn more about Photoshop since I am far from an expert at it.
And lastly, for those who used the internet for hate and called me racist. If you wish to go through life judging people with little to no information about that person, that is your problem. Every project I do is just for fun, if you enjoy it, thank you, if not, you do not have to look at it. I have no problem with critiques of my work, but make constructive comments, not mouth diarrhea.
Thank you to the people that enjoy my little hobbies. There is more Pixar mash-ups coming and drawings also in case you started to wonder.

I think your art is lovely. I have no problems with your colour choices, or any of that. I think your work is quite good.
However, it's "Straight from the source" not "Strait" and "Through life", not "threw". :)
Sorry to nit-pick, but people will take you more seriously if you watch the spelling. It's shallow and silly, but it's how people are.
Thanks, I also suck at spelling. What do you expect, I'm an artist.
I had zero issue with these images - I personally think they're stunning. Anyone who has given you grief over these, i suspect, merely likes to rant on t'interwebs because they can. Keyboard warriors, and all that. Ignore 'em.
Dude, these are all awesome, just sat the past 15 mins looking through them all, thanks
What? Racist? How is this in any way shape or form racist.
These are really cool pictures. I don't think you need to defend yourself against stupid people.
Racist involves hate. So what can you call my hate for these stupid people who would call these pictures racist.
Some folks need to get a life. Great images Phil. Clever man!
Great work. Keep it up. As for haters, there will always be people who take offence at something/ anything anyone does.
As a color blind graphic artist myself, I understand the pain and the hard work that you go through. Don't mind the critics and keep doing what you are doing: a fine work. Congrats!
I rarely comment on posts but I have to say that anyone who sees anything but pure creativity and an honest, genuine, heartfelt caricature of American TV icons is simply compensating for their own self loathing. You work brought a few moments of enjoyment to an otherwise typically boring morning at work. Thank you!
As a fan of all things Trek I thought these pictures were funny and true to the source. I did recognize some of the models from Pixar work. (Chekov was Violet's boyfriend in The Incredibles)
It has been my experience that people who point fingers and call names are projecting onto others what they find in their own hearts. Don't let the naysayers stop you! Rock on!
Awesome. Every single one. You should be very proud. Had to share this with everyone I know!
There will always be trolls on the internet. Ignore them and they'll soon drag their hairy knuckles back under the bridge. Oh, wait. Did I just discriminate against trolls?
Seriously, people who feel they have little control in their own lives seem to feel better when they think they have some sort of control over others. Don't give them that satisfaction.
Congrats! these are great! I can't wait to see what els you come up with! Movie monsters?
Your take on the Star Trek universe made my day Thank you.
They are really good pictures, keep up the good work and forget the blockheads.
Hey, from one Postma to another Postma...keep doin what you're doing!
It seems the haters have forgotten that animation, cartoons, caricatures, whatever you want to call them, are supposed to be FUN. Sad that so many have apparently had their sense of humor surgically removed.
Your work made me smile, made me laugh a few times, even made me green with envy, like an Orion slave girl.
Like I said in the Pixar thread, it reminded me I needed to get better at Photoshop. I consider myself a capable PS technician, not an artist.
*You* are an artist. Keep up the good work.
Only a racist will make an issue about skin color. And only a retard will nit-pick about grammar and spelling rather than appreciate art and beauty. Your works are the best and the coolest, Phil! Keep 'em coming.
I want to know why the only woman you could come up with out of the original cast was Veela in her "Sex me" illusion. Where is Uhura, Chapel, Rand? Well, I guess that's exactly how Pixar would treat it, 12 movies about men then a Princess movie. It's sad when Gene Roddenberry and NBC in 1966 were more progressive and less sexist than Pixar in the 90s. Women have lost a lot of ground since the 60s.
As you've discovered with barrierquark and variable - no matter what you do or your intentions - someone will find fault or pull things out of context and bitch about it (or say something silly like Pixar is somehow sexist). Its best to ignore the haters and keep creating. And as another color blind spelling impaired artist - keep up the good work!
As usual The people throwing around the "racist" word have absolutely no idea what a racist is or even what the word means.
Well, besides all the hubbub over nothing (colour), now that you have done classic star trek, you totally should follow it up with a study of TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise to boot. I think your design studies are artistic and insightful. Please keep it up!
I love this work. I think the colours are great and its in tune with the exaggeration of the character. I found your stuff from a posting from Gizmoto http://gizmodo.com/5984720/what-it-would-look-like-if-pixar-made-star-trek which the article is now on fire with 60k views - so you are getting seriously noticed. Then I drilled down and found you are Canadian in my town.. Awesome. You are on to something good here dude. Keep it up.
Did you know that J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5 fame linked to your Star Trek photos from his twitter account? I think that's a pretty high recommendation.
And speaking of clueless ... Mr./Ms. Variable, did you not see Uhura's picture? I WOULD like to see Nurse Chapel though. Yeomand Rand ... meh ... I could never take that beehive hairdo seriously.
Hey Phil,
I just went through the entire blog and loved all your work. The Star Trek and Star Wars Pixar mash ups and the star wars classic movie posters are my favorite.
Dont let them get you down. It is clear that your intent is fine and as long as you are not pushing the characters into a posistion of racial parody that is fine.
I hope the positive feedback keeps your spirits high
Ignore the negative comments about Sulu's skin color, I'm asian and I find nothing stereotypical about his skin color, stereotypical would be exagerrated slanty eyes, buck teeth and thick glasses. Your work is fine as it stands. Bravo.
Please sir. Don't stop because of some jerks on the internet!
Oh, and while I'm begging you...please give the crew of Firefly the same treatment!
Awesome stuff. Definitely several belly laughs. Very well done; please keep it up.
I wonder if George Takei would be offended as much as the kind folks who defended his honor here.
Anyway, here's a direct link to Sulu's photo from startrek.com: http://www.startrek.com/legacy_media/images/200307/sulu05/320x240.jpg
BTW, isn't pink just as offensive? As a Caucasian, I must object!
What about making Jewish actor Leonard Nimoy green? Or is that an insinuation to his Ukrainian origin, not far from Chernobyl?
Seriously, If you get offended so easily, don't go online. In fact, try to avoid people altogether.
excellent work - I'd love it if you got the time and the chance to do all the big shows - Battlestar Galactica - Babylon 5 - I know you've done some Classic Trek but I'd love to see some TNG - Pixarised Data and Picard LOL
Straight up, I'll tell you I rant about a lot that I find on the internet, A LOT.
But this work, the Pixar / Star Trek mashup, is genius. I love it. I'm late to the game as I've just found these but I'm going to treasure them and may even find someplace to print actual cards to put in my collection. They're that good.
People often make comments about how to best back up things you want to preserve, sometimes its digital in multiple formats, sometimes its plain old ink and paper. These deserve ink and paper.
