One of the best things growing up in the 80's is that you got to collect these little guys. Brought over from Japan and repackaged as M.U.S.C.L.E. ( millions of unusual small creature lurking everywhere ) was the biggest thing for a kid to collect.

Known in Japan as "Kinnikuman", It was a Manga turn Anime with a story that follows the character Kinnikuman the dim witted prince of a wrestling plant abandoned on earth as a child. This show is really weird and off the wall as you could probably guess with all the bizarre wrestlers, there was way to many cultural references that North American audiences just would not understand. That's why it was kept pretty simple when the collectible figures came over here. It is still going strong over in Japan with action figures, video games, full size statues, all kinds of goodies.

I colored mine based on the 80's Japanese cartoon show since all we had is the little pink fellows and no other color to speak of. Well not until later when they showed up in all kinds of different colors.

more next week.

  1. I had these little figures too. Never knew they were from a series though. Pretty cool, will need to look into it.
